ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûFemale Firsts Celebration Event

A drinks reception and exhibition was held on Thursday 13th December to mark the culmination of UCL's year-long celebrations for the 10th Anniversary of women receiving the right to vote.Ìý

ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûArtist-in-Residence, Kristina Clackson Bonnington, was commissioned to create 12 contemporary art works about 12 extraordinary women, who all have a ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûconnection.Ìý TheseÌýartworks were all on display together, for the first time.Ìý

The President and Provost of UCL, Michael Arthur, opened the evening and expressed how ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûFemale Firsts had given us an eye-opening insight into the barriers women have faced at ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûand in the wider world, and how far they were able to reach despite them.Ìý Kristina Clackson Bonnington spokeÌýabout her amazing journey in creating this artwork and her interaction with both the ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûFemale firsts themselves and their families.Ìý Ebony-Jewel Rainford Brent, previous ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûchemistry student, and the first black woman to play for the England Women's Cricket team, also recalled her time at ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûand how her career had evolved.ÌýÌý

This was followed by Judith Stephenson from the EGA Institute for Women's Health at UCL, and Chair of the Selection Panel,Ìýspeaking further about how this project had come togetherÌýand how it truly was a collaborative project, spanning all ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûfaculties.
