Working Title of Thesis: Welfare, labour market regulation and households' poverty risks: An analysis of the risk of entering poverty at childbirth in China

Research: My proposed research aims to deal with families' risk of entering poverty as a consequence of childbirth in China.聽 The poverty risks around childbirth are institutionally stratified according to specific characteristics of local welfare systems and the value they assign to family policies as well as labour market regulation.聽 In China, family friendly policies are varied in provinces or even in cities.聽 Meanwhile, with the abolition of the one-child policy in China, the number of newborns increased rapidly compared to the past, which is worth future comparative analysis.聽 Both quantitative and qualitative research methods will be applied in this research, including the income survey, satisfaction of family-friendly policies, Chinese census and yearbooks.

Research interests: family-friendly policy, households' poverty reduction, labour market regulation.
