Drop-in sessions

Find information about our online drop-in sessions, including when and how to attend.

The Research Ethics Service hostsÌýweekly drop-in sessions to help resolveÌýqueries related to ethicsÌýreview processes and activities managed by the team. You can also contact the team by email at any time.Ìý

Summer 2024 Update:ÌýPlease be aware that these sessions are only available during the academic term (September to June). There will be no drop-ins after Thursday 06 June until September, but we can arrange ad hoc support as needed over summer.

When to attend

All staff and research students are welcome to attend these sessions. In the first instance, we encourageÌýstudent researchers to seek advice and guidance from their supervisor or ethics lead within their department.ÌýIf additional assistance is needed,Ìýplease register for a drop-in session.

Drop in session can be used to:

  • clarify if your research needs ethics review
  • gain advice on the appropriate level of research ethics review
  • discuss complex ethical aspects of your research and how best to address in your application

If you would like to check on the progress of a current application, please email ethics@ucl.ac.ukÌýrather than book a drop-in slot.Ìý

How to attend

These sessions are held during term time (Sept-June)Ìýon Thursdays at 2-3pm and appointmentsÌýlast approximately 20Ìýminutes. Please register your interest by completing the booking form below.ÌýYou will be asked to provide aÌýshort summary of your research ethics query and your ethics ID numberÌýif your query relates to an existing registered application (e.g. how to address feedback).Ìý

Upon submission of the Qualtrics form, you will receive a 20-minute meeting invitation and theÌýTeams meeting link. Students are welcome to forward the appointment to their supervisor if they wish. Two colleagues from the Research Ethics Service will be present to take notes.ÌýPlease note, slots are allocated on a first come, first served basis. If your first choice slot is already full, we will ask you to book onto a future session.

ÌýIf you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, or have any technical issues on the day, please contact: ethics@ucl.ac.uk. This will allow us to reallocate your appointment slot to another researcher. Thank you.Ìý
