This module is restricted to students of degrees with Russian, BA Languages and Culture, BA EISPS, and BA Comparative Literature. Students should have completed the Year 1 core module in Russian (SERS0005).

  1. Use of Russian (Year 2) A (SERS0069)

Description

All students on degrees with Russian take both modules on the Year 2 Russian Language programme:

SERS0020: Comprehension of Russian (Year 2) (Russian-English Translation, Aural Comprehension)
SERS0022: Use of Russian (Year 2) (Grammar, Writing Skills, Oral)

The two compulsory 15-credit modules build on the thorough base in Russian achieved in the Year 1 Russian language programme through further study at upper intermediate level and leading towards a more advanced level of Russian.

SERS0022 Use of Russian Year 2 acquaints students with a wide range of authentic language materials, develops skills of production and use of different registers of Russian, and enhances students鈥 knowledge and understanding of Russian life and culture through the materials studied.

The general theme of the Year 2 Russian Language Programme is 鈥溞犘狙佈佇秆 胁 21-芯屑 胁械泻械 锌械褉褋锌械泻褌懈胁褘 懈 褉械邪谢褜薪芯褋褌褜.鈥 Authentic materials used for the module are designed to introduce students to the diversity of life, thought, society and culture in Russia. Classes use materials drawn from a wide variety of Russian publications and video clips from Russian TV channels.

This module aims to develop students鈥 command of written and spoken Russian at an upper intermediate level leading towards an advanced level, to consolidate and further develop their knowledge of grammar and syntax, lexis, register and style, and to boost their language awareness and language learning skills in preparation for the study abroad period.

By the end of the module, students are expected to acquire production skills in written and spoken Russian within their cultural and linguistic experience.
