Description
Content and aims:ÌýThe first five years are a fundamental time in children’s development because they are in the process of acquiring a range of social, emotional, behavioural and cognitive abilities that are foundational in terms of their long-term wellbeing. Children’s development during this period is also ‘relational’ in that it is strongly influenced by the caregiving that they receive. For example, very young children are highly dependent on their parents/caregivers during the first two years of life to regulate themselves, and their attachment relationship with these primary care-givers is key to the development of such abilities. The type of attachment that a child develops also influences many other aspects of their development including their behaviour, peer relationships and learning. The aim of the CYP IAPT Under 5s module is to train students to assess 0-5s in the context of these dyadic/triadic relationships and to collaboratively formulate treatment plans with families in ways that are consistent with evidence based practice. Students will additionally be trained in two evidence based models of intervention which they will be able to offer to families.
