Summary of the content of the module / component:
1. Diagnosis and principles of surgical treatment
2. Diagnosis and treatment of injuries from pelvis to feet
3. Multidisciplinary care of elderly fracture patients
4. Management of nonunion, malunion and infection of fractures
Aims of the component: The aim of the module is to teach the principles of management of lower limb injuries, including the issues of orthogeriatric co-management in elderly trauma patients and the management of nonunion.
Intended learning outcomes:
1. Be able to describe and discuss the patterns of injury that occur in the lower limb.
2. Be able to describe and discuss the treatment options for injuries to the spine and lower limbs.
3. Be able to describe and discuss the biology of nonunion, including infected nonunion and how to achieve healing.
4. Be able to describe and discuss holistic care to elderly patients with low-energy fractures.
