Description

Module description

This module provides an introduction to computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools through weekly practical seminars. Students are taught about the difference between MT (machine translation) and TM (translation memory), as well as fundamental concepts of Translation Memory tools in order to gain an understanding of how these tools work. The two tools which will be taught are Wordfast Anywhere (WFA) and memoQ. Students will be taught on how to create projects in both these tools and how to complete the steps required to build translation resources (e.g. translation memories and termbases), analyse and price translations, translate a number of texts, as well as how to export for example translation memories. NOTE: memoQ is Windows-only. Students can obtain a one-year student licence via this module, however, they would need to have their own Windows PC/laptop.

This module is a pre-requisite for CMII0102 - Translation Technologies 2, taught in Terms 2 and 3. Auditing this module is not possible. Ìý
