Description

Teaching Delivery: This module is taught in 10 weekly classes.Ìý

Content: This module is based on a reading of Latin historiographical texts. This year, we will read Tacitus Annals book 1, together with short passages from other Roman historians for comparison.

Skills: By the end of the module, students should have attained a familiarity with Tacitus' literary style and other key features of his historical narrative. Students should also have gained an understanding of the relationship between Tacitus' Annals and earlier Latin historiography, and of aspects of the historical events of which Tacitus writes.

Recommended edition: Miller, N.P., (2002) Tacitus Annals 1, Bristol Classical Press.
