Description

In this module you will have the opportunity to explore all aspects ofÌýthe curriculum. The curriculum is an important aspect of any educational institution, including higher education and further education establishments. This module, whilst recognising that teachers or tutors are sometimes constrained by statutory requirements (e.g. The National Curriculum in England), they are still likely to be ‘authors’ of the curriculum and so should develop ownership and authority over it. During the module you will have opportunities to examine different themes and hear from different 'authors'.

Aims

Ìý

• To encourage creativity and innovation in terms of the design and development of curriculum, taking into account the opportunities and constraints at both local and national levels.

• To encourage collaborative and reflexive approaches in the process of curriculum design and development strategies.

• To enable connections to be made between relevant literature in the field and the practice of curriculum design and development.

• To enable creative links between pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment with specific reference to curriculum writing and design.

• To critically examine notions of ‘effective practice’ in curriculum design.

• To develop authentic voice as authors of curriculum.

• To enable practitioners to explore the practices of curriculum writing within varied local, national and global contexts

Ìý

There are two options for assessment: An Essay or a Presentation. Both options allow students to demonstrate their understanding of the aims and learning outcomes. Because of time restraints and available supporting materials we strongly recommend STEP students to choose the Presentation: 20 minutes with a maximum of 10 slides followed by up to 10 minutes of Q&A.
