Description
This module is for students who have successfully completed Level 2 of the target language or can demonstrate equivalent competence. The modules Comprehension and Production are taught in conjunction. Students who successfully complete these modules should be able to function effectively and with confidence in an extensive range of academic, professional and social situations, and also to have gained a metalinguistic perspective on translation issues. Students will gain a more advanced understanding of the target language in its authentic spoken and written forms using materials from a wide variety of topic areas. They will learn to extract the required information and record it accurately and coherently in English. They will learn to manipulate the spoken and written language in any situation with appropriate, accurate and elaborate use of lexis and grammatical structures in a wide variety of contexts and registers. They will become confident in to seeking, providing and refining opinions and information in sustained spoken and written interchanges.They will learn to speak and write with increasing confidence and accuracy about key issues relating to life and culture in the region(s) where the target language is spoken.
