Description

This compulsory first year module is an introduction to Public Law. In the first part of the module you will study institutions such as Parliament, the Cabinet and the executive powers of the central Government, and the devolved legislatures and governments. It will also cover general principles of UK Constitutional Law, including the separation of powers, the rule of law, parliamentary accountability and the legislative supremacy of Parliament.Ìý

In the second part you will study the judicial review of administrative action (administrative law), the constitutional dimensions of the UK's relationship with the European Union, and the judicial protection of human rights under the UK Human Rights Act 1998. Other themes discussed in the module include the impact of Brexit on the constitution, the rise of the common laws as a source of the constitution, and recent parliamentary reforms.Ìý
