  1. Project (STAT0035)

Description

This module aims to enable students, under supervision, to apply statistical science to real world problems and learn how to communicate technical ideas both by oral and written presentations. It is intended for third and fourth year students registered on the undergraduate degree programmes offered by the Department of Statistical Science (including the MASS programmes).ÌýFor these students, the academic prerequisites for this module are generally met through compulsory study earlier in their programme, although some project topics may require particular optional modules to have been taken in addition.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • be able to obtain or access relevant background information and data;
  • be able to select and apply appropriate formal and informal statistical methods, using appropriate computer software;
  • be able to assess what has been achieved and point to further research;
  • be able to use appropriate word processing skills to write up the project report efficiently;
  • be able to communicate and defend the main points in a short verbal presentation;
  • be able to communicate the whole project in a word processed report.

Scheduled Teaching Activities - Workshops, tutorials with the project supervisor.
