Description
The module considers the foundational concepts for sustainable development to provide a broad understanding of contemporary debates, tensions, and paradoxes of embedding sustainability in business. We cover the history of sustainable development and the purpose of business value creation, introducing different perspectives, principles, and philosophies. We examine the interactions between economic prosperity, social equity, and environmental and resource stewardship, determining to what extent they reinforce or conflict with each other. Upon completion you will understand the business case for sustainability, and the predominant business motivations and approaches for embracing sustainability in current practice. Practically you will be able to critically review your own behaviour and thoughts and the perspectives of others, as well as engage in self-learning and -development.
The module covers topics with reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:听Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8),听Climate Action (SDG 13), Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16) and Partnership for the Goals (SDG 17).听
