Description

This module introduces students to the degradation processes that affect heritage, and how they can be prevented. The module focuses on the agents of deterioration (Humidity, Temperature, Light, Pollutants, Pests, Mould, etc…), their measurement and management. Students will also learn to understand materials not in isolation, but as part of a whole with their collection, building and social context. Students will learn directly from professionals who work in the heritage sector and specialise in the preventive conservation of a diversity of heritage typologies. The module contains practical knowledge on how to monitor environment and survey the conditions of buildings and collections. It also engages with recent research in this area, for example in the prediction of future damage.Ìý
