Description

This is a 12 week clinical placement-based module taken after your final examinations in March. The module comprises an 8 week clinical elective at a hospital in a country of your choice and 4 weeks of Preparation for Practice in one of our associated NHS Trusts. Ìý

The aim of the clinical elective is to deepen knowledge of subjects relevant to the MBBS curriculum, that are of particular interest to a student, in a different clinical and cultural environment of your choice.

The objectives are to:Ìý

  • develop organisational skills, and as an independent learner formulate a well thought out self-directed period of study;Ìý
  • witness the conduct of medical practice, and enhance professional skills, preferably in an environment not already encountered during previous MBBS studies;Ìý
  • increase clinical experience in an area of particular interest to the student; Ìý
  • and to broaden cultural experience in the UK or further afield. Ìý

The aim of the Preparation for Practice placement is to provide a unique opportunity, free from the pressure of exams, to prepare for your upcoming Foundation post. This placement also includes opportunities to develop other key professional skills such as audit or quality improvement projects or to develop your understanding of leadership and management in the NHS. You should seize this opportunity to have a meaningful and interesting experience, free from the worries of exams and with your focus clearly on your future as a young doctor.
