Description

Summary of the content of the module / component:

1. Development, anatomy and biomechanics of hip, knee, ankle and foot

2. Arthritis and soft tissue conditions in the lower limb

3. Principles of arthroplasty design and tribology

4. Surgical techniques and complications

5. The National Joint Registry, Outcome Measures, and quality assurance

Intended learning outcomes:

1. Be able to describe and discuss the epidemiology, aetiology and clinical consequences of musculoskeletal conditions affecting the lower limb.

2. Be able to describe and discuss the surgical techniques available for treatment and the provision of a high quality lower limb orthopaedic services in the NHS.
