Description

This introductory module explores the history of media and its place in the world through looking closely at two key media objects and exploring their materialities, economies and the practices that emerge through them. It begins with the smartphone, and interrogates this new object of convergent media and then shifts in the second half of the term to thinking about the computer. Overall, the module seeks to provide an introduction to the history of media, its political economy, and its place in the global economy.
