This module is normally taken (a) as an option by second or third year students on single or combined honours mathematics degrees and second year students on Mathematical Computation, It may be suitable for other students with a suitable background in abstract algebra. Mathematics students can only take it at level 5.

Description

This course is an introduction to elementary number theory. The main focus is on solving equations and congruences in integers, although various other rings will appear in the proofs of theorems.
