Description

This module is an extended 120-credit research project for MRes Computational Cell Biophysics students that runs from November to September in each academic year. The module is designed to be an immersive and realistic exposure to interdisciplinary research in the field of biophysics. The students have a choice of projects proposed by two researchers (supervisors) one from the physical sciences and the other from biological sciences. The projects are designed to address fundamental questions in biology but using approaches more associated with the physical sciences. Under supervision the students carry out original research in their host laboratories that is assessed via a short grant proposal, at a lab meeting, a conference presentation and a dissertation that is written in the form of a scientific paper. This interdisciplinary module is overseen and projects approved by the Director of the MRes Computational Cell Biophysics (Yanlan Mao) and by two MRes programme tutors, one from the LMCB and one from Biological Physics.
