Content and aims:ÌýThe overall aim of this module is to provide specialist training in the CYP IAPT model for professionals working in services for children and young people with Learning Disabilities or a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Conditions, following the curriculum specified by the Department of Health. The module’s content includes Autism Spectrum Conditions and Learning/Intellectual Disabilities, medical and social models of disability, behavioural, parent-training, social communication, developmental and systemic perspectives, and assessment and therapy. The module will provide a comprehensive introduction to the knowledge competencies in three key areas: ASC/LD Core Knowledge and Skills; ASC/LD Assessment Module; and Intervention in ASC/LD. The teaching in all three areas will be developed through a combination of lectures and Practice Tutorials. The course aims to enable students to deliver assessment and intervention services to children and young people with ASC and/or a LD competently and creatively, and to act as experts with access to vital resources for young people, their families and professional colleagues, thus ensuring the development of appropriate care pathways for ASC/LD referrals and informed young person choice as part of the CYP IAPT service transformation. The course will have an integrated theoretical base with consideration of the social disability model and neurodiversity, reflecting a combined medical, psychological and allied health professional multidisciplinary approach.
