Description

This module will introduce students to key debates and developments in Latin American cinema during the first two decades of the twenty-first century, a period characterised by a rise in film productivity in the region, both in countries with strong film industries and in those with more precarious film infrastructures. We will look at the relationship between globalization and Latin American cinema in the neoliberal area, at the development of ‘national’ trends as well as at the role played by transnational funding and international film festivals in the making and circulation of films. Throughout the module, we will pay attention to the aesthetics, politics and production of films, and analyse how contemporary cinema deals with the legacy of historical traumas as well as with pressing current issues.Ìý
