Description

Module Content and Indicative TopicsÌý

The module aims to: build on and improve students’ strategies and methods for language learning; build on and improve students’ language skills in speaking, understanding, writing and reading including elements of pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar; enable the students to express opinions and discuss various topics with some fluency in both speech and writing, and to understand and read authentic Danish texts at increasing levels of difficulty.Ìý

Teaching DeliveryÌý

There will be seminars each week, consisting of tutor-led discussions, communicative exercises,Ìývarious tasks including text-reading and discussion,Ìýand student presentations.ÌýThe various activities will continually be evaluated and adapted to bestÌýsuit students’ needs.Ìý

By the end of the module, you should be able to:ÌýÌý

  1. Understand and communicate in Danish at B1–B2 level (reading, writing, speaking and listening)ÌýÌý

  1. Understand processes involved in language acquisitionÌý

  1. Use strategies forÌýconsolidating vocabulary and linguistic structuresÌý

  1. Understand and employ grammatical and syntactical rules in Danish at an appropriate levelÌý

  1. Use digital tools (e.g. text corpora) in the language learning processÌý

  • Grammar: It is recommended that students have their own copy of R Allan, P Holmes & TÌýLundskær-Nielsen,ÌýDanish. An Essential GrammarÌý(Routledge 2011).Ìý

  • Dictionaries:ÌýDansk-engelskÌýordbogÌý&ÌýEngelsk-danskÌýordbogÌý(Gyldendal) or similar. Make sure that the dictionary gives you the gender of nouns.Ìý
