Description

This core MPA module focuses on how governments work: the tools and processes used by governments around the world and at every level use to turn aspirations into results. It focuses on what’s happening now, but also connects to the 5000 year history of government; draws on many examples from diverse countries; covers topics including implementation, data, finance, regulation, innovation, analysis and the politics of reform. Ìý

Throughout the module, students will have opportunities to reflect on how governments handle longstanding tasks such as managing welfare or regulating infrastructures while also looking at increasingly complex current challenges, from pandemics to climate change.Ìý

In class students will be able to dive deeper into specific cases and to draw on examples from their own countries.ÌýÌý Outside speakers, both academics and practitioners who work at the heart of governments around the world, will bring additional perspectives.

By the end students will have a firm understanding of how government works in the real world – and what the frontiers of effective government look like today.Ìý
