Description

The Infectious Agents module provides state-of-the-art coverage of a selection of current issues in the field of infection. No attempt is made to cover a comprehensive curriculum but, instead, students will learn the language and concepts of the field through specific research-led examples and active discussions.

Themed teaching sessions given by experts comprise an introduction to the topic followed by discussion and critique of a recent paper. Papers will be provided in advance and students will be expected to come to sessions prepared to discuss the set paper critically.

The focus throughout the module is on reading and discussing primary literature: full participation in class discussions is essential.

Learning Outcomes

  • Development of critical analysis skills and scientific self-confidence through reading and discussing the papers for each session.
  • Acquisition of a detailed knowledge of the featured topics and a clear sense of the key current issues in the field.
