Description

This module relates the study of economic ideas of the past to current debates and discussions on the economic issues of the present.

The module aims to demonstrate that reassessing the ideas of the past provides a valuable opportunity to assess economic issues which have in many cases become unfamiliar within economic theory as it has existed in recent times.

The module thus aims to show how the history of economic thought is a fundamental aspect of the formulation of economic ideas which can adequately address the issues of the present.

The module acquaints students with selections from some classic texts of economic thought which they will be able to cite throughout their student career and beyond.

The module has strong career relevance, since it provides students with the ability to engage in informed discussion with non-specialists, as well as specialists, on issues currently reviving widespread attention in the media and public debate generally.
