Description

Tuberculosis (TB) is the commonest cause of death due to a single infectious agent worldwide. This specialised module leverages the research strength in TB in the Division of Infection & Immunity (I&I) and Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) to provide cutting-edge research-led knowledge of the science of TB. Content will range from field epidemiology to laboratory sciences. State-of-the art lectures will be provided by world-leading scientists at I&I and AHRI and beyond and complemented by student-led discussion and analysis of contemporary primary research literature.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module you will have:

  • Up-to-date understanding of TB: the microbiology, epidemiology, host responses and pathogenesis, diagnostic and therapeutic innovation.
  • Appreciation of the real-life interplay between basic science and clinical research to inform strategies for the prevention and treatment of TB.
  • Advanced experience of interpretation and critical analysis of primary scientific literature.
