Description
This is an introductory module to evidence based dental practice. The module is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of the principles of evidence-based practice and their implementation, as well as effective ways of communicating research evidence to wider audiences. A key element of the module is equipping students with the skills to critically appraise the scientific literature.
After taking this module, students will have developed:Ìý
- An appreciation of principles and implementation of evidence-based practice, including different forms of evidence synthesis
- Ability to critically appraise scientific papers
- Understanding and practical skills required to develop a policy briefing.
This module is open to students registered on the MSc Dental Public Health.
Students attend a series of lectures in Term 3 of the academic year. Sessions will involve discussions and small group work. Critical appraisal skills will be practiced during interactive seminars throughout the year involving the discussion and appraisal of published journal articles.
