This module is mainly for students registered on the MEng in Engineering and Architectural design, however some places may be available to students on: BSc Architectural and Interdisciplinary Studies and BSc Architectural and Interdisciplinary Studies [with a year abroad] subject to rooming capacity restrictions. Both BARC 0001 AND BARC 0002 are essential pre-requisites for this module.

Description

This module explores the steps involved in the identification of active building elements / systems for integration within the context of a medium scale building design. Developing awareness of the building systems, through workshops and lectures the students will be introduced to the techniques used to select systems, explore issues associated with the integration of these systems. Fundamentals and application of heating, ventilation and cooling systems will be discussed in the context of sustainable building design.
