Description

The aim of this module is to provide module participants with deeper insights into learning and teaching in engineering by:

  1. Exploring the historical shifts in thinking on engineering practice during the 20th and early 21st centuries and their impact on approaches to engineering education and pedagogy so as to provide a historical context for learning, teaching and assessment in engineering;
  2. Introducing and critiquing current learning, teaching and assessment practices in engineering education, and bringing out their main advantages and disadvantages with a view to identifying the opportunities and challenges for their successful deployment;
  3. Introducing current debates and issues on the use of technology in engineering education, and exploring and identifying the opportunities and challenges for technology enhanced learning in engineering;
  4. Exploring current debates and issues in engineering curriculum design, and identifying the opportunities and challenges relating to engineering curriculum transformation;
  5. Fostering engagement with the current scholarly literature on learning and teaching in engineering and exploring evidence-based approaches for the critical and reflective evaluation of own learning and teaching practice.
