Description

Aims: This subject provides students an introduction to recent developments in the migration and job search literature. Students will learn how to formulate and solve dynamic models, and apply these models to analyse a range of topics including migration, employment transitions and wage dispersion across workers. Throughout the module, analysis will be linked to the current debate on migration and other labour market policies.

Suitable for: Final year Economics (L100 / L101 / L102), Econ/Geog (LL17), Econ/Stats (LG13), Phil/Econ (VL51).

Prerequisites: ECON0013: Microeconomics and ECON0019 Quantitative Economics and Econometrics.

Assumed knowledge:

1) In terms of Econometrics/Statistics, students should understand basic properties of mean, variance and co-variance, normal distribution, maximum likelihood, OLS and IV regression.
2) In terms of Calculus, students should be familiar with differentiation and integration by parts.
3) In terms of Microeconomics, they should also understand supply and demand, elasticities, and drivers of shifts in supply and demand curves, substitution and income effects.
