Description

This听module is concerned with the ways in which economic life and economic听institutions are embedded with the larger social structure. 听We consider how social听norms and ongoing听social relationship influence economic transactions, economic efficiency and听outcomes.听 听Topics covered include trust,听social capital, ethnic听enclave and ethnic economy, different forms of welfare听capitalism, philanthropy and the third sector, residential segregation,听altruism and reciprocity, and the听moral economy.听听We take an explicit comparative approach,听stressing the diverse forms in which societies and economies are organised.
