Description

ThisÌýmodule is concerned with the ways in which economic life and economicÌýinstitutions are embedded with the larger social structure. ÌýWe consider how socialÌýnorms and ongoingÌýsocial relationship influence economic transactions, economic efficiency andÌýoutcomes.Ìý ÌýTopics covered include trust,Ìýsocial capital, ethnicÌýenclave and ethnic economy, different forms of welfareÌýcapitalism, philanthropy and the third sector, residential segregation,Ìýaltruism and reciprocity, and theÌýmoral economy.ÌýÌýWe take an explicit comparative approach,Ìýstressing the diverse forms in which societies and economies are organised.
