‘Data Analysis for Population Health’ is a module which will provide you with the skills to carry out basic statistical analyses using STATA so that you are able to complete a quantitative dissertation. You will cover a variety of topics important for statistical analysis in the field of population health. These will include variable types, summarising and visualising data, normal distribution, statistical significance, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, chi-square tests, z- & t-tests, measuring associations between numerical or categorical variables, and finally linear regression and logistic regression.

By the end of the module, you will be able to:

1. Select appropriate statistical analysis based on the hypotheses and data types.
2. Carry out statistical analysis using STATA suitable for analysing large health datasets.
3. Write and apply simple STATA syntax to conduct analyses and interpret results accordingly.

This is an introductory module for Year 2 students on the BSc Population Health Sciences programme running in Term 1 of the academic year. There is limited availability for ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûelective students from other departments. Places are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis on Portico when the module selection opens. Spaces are limited.

Teaching for this module will take place in the form of lectures followed by practical sessions, and self-paced independent study using the statistical software STATA.
