  1. Comprehension of Russian (Year 4) (SERS0075)

Description

Comprehension of Russian (Year 4) will advance final-year comprehension skills in two key areas: translation from Russian into English and summary of a Russian text in English.

Both components will be practised in class throughout the year, drawing on a wide range of texts and styles. Texts for translation will be drawn primarily from literary works; texts for summary from contemporary journals and newspapers.

Formative assessment: Students' work will be discussed and assessed in class each week. Written work will be marked every two weeks. Vocabulary tests will be held at regular intervals.

Summative assessment: The module is assessed by a two-hour examination comprising ONE text in Russian for translation into English and ONE longer text in Russian for summary in English; both elements are weighted equally. The mark-schemes for both components award credit for comprehension of the original text and for the quality of English.Ìý
