This module is restricted to students of degrees with Russian, BA Languages and Culture, BA EISPS, and BA Comparative Literature. Students should have completed the Year 1 core module in Russian (SERS0003).

Description

All students on degrees with Russian take both modules on the Year 2 Russian Language programme:

SERS0020: Comprehension of Russian (Year 2) (Russian-English Translation, Aural Comprehension)
SERS0022: Use of Russian (Year 2) (Grammar, Writing Skills, Oral)

ÌýThe two compulsory 15-credit modules build on the thorough base in Russian achieved in the Year 1 Russian language programme through further study at upper intermediate level and leading towards a more advanced level of Russian.

Aims of Comprehension of Russian (Year 2):

To consolidate and further develop a knowledge of grammar and syntax, lexis, register and style, as well as language awareness and language learning skills.

To develop a range of comprehension skills, including translation from Russian to English, reading fluency, and aural comprehension.

To acquaint students with a wide range of authentic language materials, to develop skills of working with texts, and to enhance students' knowledge and understanding of Russian life and culture through the materials studied.
