Description

The module aims to develop critical knowledge of the theoretical concepts and methods and associated research literature for behavioural activation and to develop practical competency in implementing this technique with service-users with psychosis. This module will provide students with knowledge and understanding of the ways in which depression presents, along with the knowledge and skills required for its assessment, and for the development of cognitive behavioural formulations that guide behavioural activation. It will introduce students to the behavioural activation model and equip them with the skills to implement this intervention, and to evaluate its outcome. Skills based competencies will be developed through small group experiential work and role-plays. Self-directed study will include general reading and web based resources will allow students to study examples of clinical therapy sessions and clinical demonstrations of specific techniques.
