Description
The clinical training programme will take place over a two-three month period. This is preceded by theoretical lectures where aspects of clinical training i.e. complications are covered. Another three lecture days will take place at the end of the six-month period. Lectures will be given and clinical cases presented by the students will be discussed. One day is spent on simulation training in management of medical emergencies the following year usually in April or May. The content of the module involves didactic lectures, clinical skills seminars, problem based learning, clinical sessions sedating patients in small groups under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified mentors. On-going contact with lecturers during and after the course on a mentor basis will be encouraged. Students will keep a log book of all cases observed and undertaken during the course. For clinical training students will go to two accredited community clinics where they will get practical training in: Pre-sedation assessment Administration of titrated intravenous midazolam Administration of nitrous oxide/oxygen.
