Description
°ä´Ç²Ô³Ù±ð²Ô³Ù:ÌýThis module will introduce students to the current evidence base in CBT for depression with young children and young people. It aims to provide intensive, detailed training to facilitate skill development and will enable students to develop competency in working collaboratively with young people and their families. The module will cover both the assessment and treatment of young people with depression with a preference for approaches where cognitive and behavioural techniques are integrated in therapy. The module will also enable students to gain a critical understanding of the phenomenology, diagnostic classifications and epidemiological characteristics of depressive disorders. Finally, the module will discuss working with risk and co-morbid presentations to support clinical decision making in complex situations. NICE guidelines have been developed for depression in children and young people (CG28) and suggest that CBT is an effective intervention for depression. However, the research also suggests that there are some young people who do not respond CBT for depression. Students will be encouraged to critically evaluate the current evidence base and guidelines as part of this module.
