Mental health practitioners do not simply work with a person, their family and carers, but do so in wider contexts; this includes not only the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), but also the resources and challenges of the wider community.听 Practitioners operate at all times from an inclusive values base with promotes recovery and recognises and respects diversity.听 Diversity represents the range of cultural norms including personal, family, social and spiritual values held by the diverse communities served by the service within which the worker is operating
The focus of this module is on learning how to mobilise such resources sensitively and effectively in collaboration with service users, carers and families 鈥� including information, resources within the MDT, NHS and in the wider community.听 This module will teach students the concepts of effective MDT care planning; understanding the concepts of diversity, inclusion and multi-culturalism is key to this.听 Students will develop an understanding and awareness of the power issues in professional /patient relationships and take steps in their clinical practice to reduce any potential for negative impact this may have.
This module will provide students with an understanding of the complexity of people鈥檚 health, social and occupational needs and the services which can support people to recovery. It will examine the concepts of diagnosis and formulation and how they differ. Students will be introduced to risk and safeguarding and will develop competence in managing a caseload of people with severe mental health problems efficiently and safely,
Finally, the module will develop students鈥� clinical decision-making abilities and enable them to effectively use supervision and to recognise when and where it is appropriate to seek further advice.
