Description

The course will introduce protein biochemistry, with related analytical and molecular biology techniques, specifically tailored for biochemical engineers. Fundamentals of protein structure, properties, folding, thermodynamic stability and aggregation will underpin performance and selection of purification methods and formulations in protein manufacturing.ÌýÌý

Upon successful completion of this advanced module, students should be able to:Ìý

  • Compare and contrast protein structure determination methods and the structure types used as therapies.Ìý

  • Analyse protein structures and evaluate the forces that stabilise them.Ìý

  • Analyse protein structures and sequences to predict their physical properties.ÌýÌý

  • Evaluate the physical properties of proteins and use them to design purification protocols and stable formulations that improve bioprocess manufacturing.Ìý

  • Use bioinformatics and computational tools to predict protein structures from their sequence information.Ìý
