Description

This module develops your knowledge of different causes of hearing loss, their pathophysiology, symptoms, and diagnosis. It introduces further diagnostic tests of hearing and the instrumentation, stimuli and recording parameters used. Interpretation of test results and the limitations of the tests will also be discussed. You will learn about test selection and how to modify the test approach when appropriate. The role of the symptom and medical history in diagnosis will also be explored.
This module aims to provide the underpinning knowledge for diagnosis of hearing disorders, including:
•ÌýÌý ÌýCauses of hearing loss, their symptoms, diagnosis and management.Ìý
•ÌýÌý ÌýThe patient experience of hearing loss across a range of conditions.Ìý
•ÌýÌý ÌýFurther tests of hearing loss in adults.Ìý
•ÌýÌý ÌýInstrumentation, stimuli, recording parameters and calibration.
•ÌýÌý ÌýInterpretation of test results and test limitations.
•ÌýÌý ÌýTest selection and modifying the test approach. Ìý
On completion of this module you should be able to:
1.ÌýÌý ÌýDescribe a range of causes of hearing loss, their symptoms and methods of diagnosis.
2.ÌýÌý ÌýDescribe a range of diagnostic tests, including recommended test procedures.
3.ÌýÌý ÌýInterpret diagnostic test results accurately and discuss their limitations.
4.ÌýÌý ÌýIdentify appropriate test strategies and discuss when, and how, these should be modified.Ìý
5.ÌýÌý ÌýDiscuss the role of the history and the test results in diagnosing hearing conditions.
