Description

Architectural culture has never been exclusively a product of professionally-trained architects, but now, more than ever, there are many other people working in related fields who shape debates and ideas around architecture in significant ways. Architectural Research II is designed to provide students with a more in-depth understanding of how ideas about architecture are communicated and disseminated as well as to give students practical skills and experience in organizing a project as part of a team.

Architectural Research II is a follow-up course to Architectural Research I: it will put the research skills acquired in Architectural Research I into action. It is a 10-week group project (though each member’s contribution will be individually assessed). Each year, the module leader will set a different theme. The group must work towards producing a high-quality exhibition or a publication on this theme at the end of the course. Importantly, apart from the theme, key decisions regarding the research, organisation, design, and presentation of the project are in the hands of the students, in consultation with the course tutor. Each student will agree to take responsibility for a particular task or tasks, but regular group meetings mean that they remain aware of the progress of the whole project and must come together to work as a team.
