Description

This module will reinforce core concepts in infectious disease taught in the Health Protection core module and introduce you to additional topics.  You will critique infectious disease epidemiology study designs and infectious disease modelling techniques. You will gain an appreciation of the application of molecular epidemiology and new technologies (omics) in infectious diseases.  You will consider advanced topics around vaccine and immunisation development, testing and roll-out.  It will introduce you to global public health challenges in infectious diseases, such as emerging infections, pandemic response, zoonotic transmission, neglected tropical diseases, and antimicrobial resistance.  You will also learn to understand these issues in the context of the broader determinants relating to policy, ethics, the law, health systems, economics, conflict and climate change.  Using applied case studies, you will learn about interdisciplinary methods for evaluating the impact of interventions on infectious diseases and how to identify and effectively communicate with key stakeholders, including patients, the public, and policymakers.Ìý
