Description
This module offers students the opportunity to continue their studies of human anatomy. They will consolidate and deepen their anatomical knowledge and be introduced to a more scientific approach to the study of morphology - through an individual dissection on the upper or lower limb and a review of relevant literature on related clinical and comparative topics.
Teaching comprises an introductory meeting, formal dissection sessions, an individual dissection presentation and the production of a portfolio. Students will focus on one specific dissection project, which they will select in consultation with the module tutors. This dissection will be complemented by a coursework portfolio including a dissection plan, list of dissection objectives, a dissection report and a poster presentation relating to the anatomy of the dissected region, focusing on a topic of clinical, developmental or comparative anatomical interest. Students who have not previously dissected (the majority) will be given guidance. Students will gain experience in dissection, research, writing and presentation skills, and will learn to plan and organize their final presentation independently.Ìý Assessment will be by a dissection and presentation, a poster and presentation and a coursework portfolio.
This module is open to:
- BSc students who have completed ANAT0005 and ANAT0006 with a grade of 65% or higher on first attempt,
- iBSc students in Anatomy, Cell and Developmental Biology, provided they have passed year 2, again on first attempt, with marks of 60% (Grade B) or higher.
- Students on the Integrated Anatomy Stream of the MRes in Biosciences.
Module numbers are capped as this is a very small module.
Module organizers: Dr Wendy Birch (w.birch@ucl.ac.uk) and Professor Susan Evans (s.e.evans@ucl.ac.uk).
