Description
Content: This module will provide students with an introduction to advancements in technology and analysis techniques for data with a focus on psychological and behavioural insight. This module will provide a critical overview of new technology and analysis techniques as well as a discussion of the philosophical and moral issues associated with data collection and use.
Teaching delivery: This module is taught in 15 hours of in-person lectures spread over 10 teaching weeks (usually 5 1-hour lectures in one half of term and 5 2-hour sessions in the other half of term).
Indicative Topics: As this module is running for the first time in 2024-25 indicative topics from previous years are not available.听
Module Aims: By the end of the module students should gain:
- An understanding of the range of new technologies for data collection and new analysis techniques for data analysis.
- An understanding of both the benefits and limitations of these new technology and analysis techniques.
- An awareness of the inherent biases that exist in data which can be amplified by technology and algorithms.
- The development of a critical mind-set allowing for understanding of what the optimal and suitable questions are to ask from a dataset, how to identify an appropriate analysis technique and convey the insight of data in a meaningful way.
