Law Societies

The Law Societies at ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûLaws are run by students, for students, with the help and support of the Faculty.

Our unrivalled and dedicated Societies standÌýus apart from other institutions. Each Society plays a pivotal role within ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûLaws and delivers an outstanding programme of activities and events each term, includingÌýtalks by eminent academics and practitioners from outside UCL.

Competitions and activities

The Law Societies co-ordinate pro bono opportunities, enabling you to experience a different side of lawÌýand give back to the local community. You can also take part inÌýmooting, negotiation, client interviewing and debatingÌýcompetitions to help build your skills and legal knowledge.

The Law Societies also host a range ofÌýcareers events, some in conjunction with the Faculty -Ìýincluding workshops, panel discussionsÌýand talks.ÌýThe Society maintains strong links with law firms in London and elsewhereÌýto help all students at ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûLaws make the most out of their time with us. You can also attendÌýprofessional networking events, including the prestigious annual Barristers’ Cocktail Party.Ìý

Social events

There are plenty of social and networking opportunities to get involved in as well, including sportsÌýevents,Ìýballs, and end of term parties. New and returning students are welcomed at Freshers' Week, with various events for you to meet new people and build friendships.

Representing studentsÌý

The Law Societies’ presidents and officers are elected each year by students, and the Societies’ activities are governed by their constitutions.

Both Law Societies exist to represent students’ interests atÌýÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûLaws. The Societies’ presidents sit on the Faculty’s Staff-Student Consultative Committee and on the Faculty Board, the governing body of ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûLaws. Student representatives liaise regularly with Faculty Officers over all matters affecting students.Ìý
