ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûLaws students excel in Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Moot

The ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûLaws team faced fierce competition from teams across the world, and finished as semi-finalists in the oral rounds and runners-up in the written rounds of the mooting competition.

Between 17-25 February, law students representing universities around the world competed in the virtual 2024 Fletcher Moot. The ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûLaws team was represented by 3rd year LLB students Saiba Ahuja, Felix Williams, Georgina Withers-Boalch, and 2nd year LLB student Victoria Lee.Ìý

Following the team’s strong performance in the written rounds, Saiba and Georgina were selected as oralists in the oral rounds. The ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûLaws team finished as semi-finalists in the oral rounds, placing them within the top 4 teams in the world. The team were also named as runners-up in the written rounds, placing them top 2 in the world. This excellent performance demonstrates their stellar legal expertise and advocacy skills, as well as their strong collaborative efforts.

Special thanks go to The Rt. Hon. Lord Collins of Mapesbury (Chair of Laws at ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûLaws) and Timothy Koo (ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûLaws LLB 2023 and LLM candidate at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School), who coached the team and provided guidance throughout the competition.

The Fletcher Moot invites law students around the world to apply their knowledge of international insolvency law and international commercial litigation through mooting. This year’s problem considers a range of international insolvency laws and raises various contentious issues to challenge students’ critical thinking and research skills.

The competition is named after Professor Ian Fletcher, an eminent academic who was renowned for his outstanding achievements in the field of insolvency law. He joined ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûLaw in 2001, and was Professor of International Commercial Law until he passed away in July 2018.
