The role provides legal advice to the Master of the Rolls, and the senior civil judiciary, on civil justice issues.

ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûLaws PhD candidate Terry McGuinness was appointed as legal advisor to the Master of the Rolls on 1 March 2021.

The Master of the Rolls (Sir Geoffrey Vos) is head of civil justice for England and Wales, and the legal advisor provides advice on the development of civil policy, rules and procedure.

Terry also advises him in his position as Chair of the Advisory Council on National Records and Archives and supports him in his range of other, often historic, responsibilities.

Terry joined the ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûJudicial Institute in September 2017 as a PhD Candidate. Under the supervision of Professor Cheryl Thomas, he is researching the office of coroner and its role in the administration of justice. His research is supported by a ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûFaculty of Laws Research Scholarship.
