Music Futures

Music Futures is an initiative dedicated to thinking, writing and performing music, jointly hosted by the ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûEuropean Institute and the ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûInstitute of Advanced Studies, with support from ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûGrand Challenges.

ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûdoes not have a dedicated department of musicology, but it has a great wealth of ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûacademics workingÌýon and with music in a wide range of disciplinesÌý- be it in literature, history, philosophy,Ìýtechnology, law, cognitiveÌýneuroscience, fine arts, music education or elsewhere.ÌýMusic Futures aims to foster a new cluster of scholarship andÌýcreativity in this space. This includes °ù±ð²õ±ð²¹°ù³¦³óÌý²¹²ú´Ç³Ü³ÙÌý³¾³Ü²õ¾±³¦Ìýas well as researchÌýquaÌýcreative or performative practice. To this end, we alsoÌýdraw in musicians, composers and performers external to UCL.Ìý

The initiative was launched in October 2021 and the first year culminatedÌýin the Music Futures Festival,Ìýin June 2022.ÌýThe initiative continued in 2022-23, with ten funded projects. Our aim is for it to have a lasting impact.Ìý
