Why were you interested in studying the course?

鈥淚n high school, I developed a strong passion for聽both聽geography and economics.聽

鈥淕eography fascinated me with its diverse range of topics, while聽economic theories and models offered a systematic lens for thinking about the world. I could not imagine choosing one over another.

What were the most聽interesting聽or engaging things you learned on the course?

鈥淚 found the different economic models I encountered on the course particularly appealing.聽

鈥淔rom the 3-Equation New Keynesian Model for macroeconomic聽analysis聽to the Solow and Romer model for economic growth analysis, when studying these models, I felt as if I were engaging in a dialogue with the economists who developed them, impressed by how these models simplify and illuminate complex economic processes in an intelligent, elegant, and rigorous manner.

鈥淥utside of the course, I enjoy applying these models to help address real-world economic phenomena and problems.鈥

Can you tell us about any particularly memorable experiences from your time as a student with us?

鈥淭丑别 course maintains a small cohort of like-minded and friendly individuals, forming a close-knit community.

鈥淥ne of my most cherished moments was spending nights in the library with friends during finals.聽

鈥淎lthough these were stressful and challenging times, we created fun out of them!聽

鈥淲e motivated聽each other, exchanged insights, helped each other overcome difficulties, provided a shoulder to lean on during聽tough聽moments, and made progress together.聽

鈥淭丑别se experiences created lasting memories and built lifelong camaraderie which continues to inspire and support me beyond my academic journey.鈥

What would you like to do when you graduate聽and聽how has your degree helped?

鈥淚 am graduating this year, after which I will be pursuing a Master鈥檚 degree in management.聽

鈥淢y training in Geography and Economics has granted me a handy set of transferable skills and knowledge.聽

鈥淭丑别se include solid statistical and quantitative skills, computational skills (with R, STATA, and GIS), strong time management, pressure adaptability, teamwork, and communication skills.聽

鈥淎dditionally, I have developed a solid grounding in the聽key聽principles of economics and geography and the ability to apply them critically to various topics.聽

鈥淣ot only can these skills and knowledge be effectively mobilised in my Master鈥檚 studies to analyse the internal environment of businesses and the external socio-economic environment in which businesses operate, but they have also equipped me to solve real-world problems in my daily life and future career.鈥

Would you recommend studying聽this course聽in the Department and why?

鈥淵es, I highly recommend it,聽particularly聽because of the supportive, friendly, and respectful atmosphere within the Department, not to mention the rigour of the course.聽

鈥淭hroughout my time here, I always felt well-supported by the faculty and staff, who were approachable and willing to help.聽

鈥淢y聽personal聽tutors were proactive in聽providing guidance聽on both academic and personal matters, ensuring I was never alone in my journey.聽
