  8. As I created different shapes of silicone with varying heights for the handrails, I wanted to observe the audience's response to the contrasting materials and heights. Due to the height difference between the handrails, it was interesting to watch the audience's posture as they reached for them. Also, with the various shapes and locations of the handrails, it was intriguing to see how people grasped them using different hand poses. Some individuals refrained from touching the handrail because it was perceived as artwork, while others simply wanted to interact with it. Thus, I was in a position to experiment with the audience. The irony in this work lies in the fact that, despite its focus on tactile experience and encouragement of touch, people found it challenging to grip the handrails due to the silicone. I introduced this obstacle to observe people's reactions to a unique object placed on a domestic and familiar item. The inspiration for the large vertical sculpture came from bus handrails. When we need to grasp a handrail in transportation or other situations where handrails are present, we often hesitate to touch or avoid grabbing handrails that are already being used by someone else, even if there is ample space to do so. The reason I named the work '73' is because it references the bus route from Kings Cross to Oxford Street, which I frequently take to go to college or spend time with friends. Therefore, as the longest handrail had more space than the smaller ones, people were more likely to grab and interact with it.

    Inspired by my memories of funeral floral arrangements, I employ the use of the flower motif to portray the liminal space my mother's body was in within the last 3 hours of her life. Layers of acrylic and oil paint on hessian express the complex and transitional space between life and death, the body and the spirit as well as faith and hopelessness. Vibrant hues ironically signal to the viewer that joy and faith sit amongst pain and despair, that light and rebirth sits amongst darkness and death.

  44. Floor-based sculptural installation. On the floor are two sculptures whose main feature are warm yellow plastic sandbags with a woven texture. These sandbags are installed in multiple layers and folds. The sculpture on the left has a long plank of pine wood going through the sandbags, other materials and objects emerge out of the layers of sandbags, such as geologic-looking bronze forms, sulphur crystals, pine needles, beeswax casts of the walls of Sicilian sulphur mine, and black volcanic sand. On the sculpture on the right hand side, the folds and curls of the sandbags are stronger. Emerging and peeking out of these folds are more beeswax casts of the sulphur mine walls, rivers of black volcanic sand, carob pods, a found snail shell stuffed with sulphur crystals, an iron pick axe used to mine raw sulphur, and a bronze cast of a bread, that lies on one edge of sandbag, as if it were lifting up the layers of sandbags, like turning the page of a book.

  76. This is a picture of an amusement park in the background, with the fireworks and smoke in front of it so that only part of the structure of the amusement park can be recognised. The overall colour palette is red and the smoke and fireworks are yellow. There is a lot of sparkle in the image, as if it were the afterglow of a setting sun.
